12m Bridge
Otapiri-Mandeville Road, Hokanui
The 12-meter bridge, designed by GM, is a robust and efficient structure that combines steel and concrete elements to ensure strength and durability. The bridge features composite sections, with steel 610UB125 beams serving as the primary load-bearing elements. These beams are ingeniously designed with concrete deck units securely welded to the underside of both sides of the top flange.
To guarantee optimal performance, the bridge design adheres to the load elements outlined in the Transit NZ Bridge Manual (SP/M/022) for full HN loading, while also incorporating a 0.85 reduction to account for lightly trafficked rural bridges. This ensures that the bridge can withstand the expected loads and conditions with sufficient safety margins.
By combining the strength of steel beams and the durability of concrete deck units, the 12-meter bridge designed by GM delivers a robust and reliable structure. The innovative design approach, adherence to load elements, and meticulous construction processes result in a bridge that can withstand the expected loads, providing safe passage for vehicles, and ensuring longevity for years to come.
